Foot Nerve Pain Relief
Diabetic nerve pain can make walking, sleeping, and everyday activities uncomfortable. When diabetes damages nerves in the feet, those nerves can send pain signals that cause burning, tingling, or sharp, shooting pain.
Spine West now offers QUTENZA®, an FDA-approved treatment for diabetic nerve pain of the feet in adults. This prescription-strength capsaicin topical system is applied directly to the painful areas during an office visit. It targets the nerve endings that send pain signals, providing a treatment option without surgery or another daily pill.
A provider will review your symptoms, medical history, and current treatments to determine if QUTENZA is appropriate for you.
Benefits
Targeted, lasting pain relief. QUTENZA works at the nerve endings in the treated areas to reduce pain signals, proving relief for up to 3 months.
No additional daily pill.
No surgery or incisions. The topical system is placed directly on intact skin in a quick, in-office treatment.
-
Your provider will identify the painful areas and prepare your foot for application.
QUTENZA is placed on the treatment areas for 30 minutes.
After the application, your provider will cleanse the treated skin. QUTENZA must be applied and removed by a healthcare professional.
-
One treatment may provide up to three months of pain relief. Results vary, and relief may not be immediate.
Treatment may be repeated if needed after three months.
-
Tell us about every medication, especially blood thinners, aspirin, and supplements affecting bleeding.
Do not stop any prescribed medication on your own. We will tell you if anything needs adjusting and coordinate with your prescribing physician.
-
What should I do before the procedure?
Tell us about any break in the skin on that hand. A cut, rash, blister, or active infection may mean rescheduling, so call ahead rather than finding out on arrival.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your feet, and bring something to read or do during the application.
-
Wash your feet as instructed and put on clean socks. The treated areas may be sensitive to heat for several days, so avoid hot water, heating pads, direct sunlight, and vigorous exercise during that time.
